Behind every parrot perched on a shoulder, every bearded dragon basking under a heat lamp, and every bunny hopping through a living room is an owner who chose to welcome something beautifully different into their life. Exotic pets bring a sense of wonder to a household, but they also require a veterinary team that truly understands their distinct biology and care needs.
Venetian Pet Hospital is proud to offer comprehensive exotic pet veterinary services in Stockton, CA. From birds and reptiles to small mammals and pocket pets, our team is equipped to deliver the specialized care your non-traditional companion needs.
Our dedicated team is here to provide urgent, high-quality care for your pets—because they’re family and deserve immediate attention when it matters most!
Our practice welcomes a wide range of exotic companion animals. Whether you’re a first-time owner or a seasoned exotic enthusiast, we have the experience to help. The species and groups we regularly care for include rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, and hamsters, iguanas and other lizards, snakes, birds, turtles, and other exotic animals.
Exotic animals have very different physiologies, behaviors, and disease risks compared to cats and dogs. A treatment protocol that works well for a dog could be harmful or even fatal to a rabbit or a reptile. The American Pet Products Association reports that nearly one in ten U.S. households now owns an exotic animal, and this growing population requires veterinary professionals with the right training and experience. Our team stays current on the latest advances in exotic animal medicine to provide the best possible care.
Every exotic pet wellness visit at our hospital is customized to the animal’s species. We evaluate diet, housing conditions, body condition, and look for signs of illness that may not be obvious to an untrained eye. Annual or biannual checkups are essential because exotic pets often hide symptoms of disease.
When your exotic pet is sick, we use advanced diagnostic tools to identify the problem. Our in-house capabilities include radiology, ultrasonography, bloodwork, and fecal testing. These tools help us diagnose conditions accurately and create effective treatment plans.
Birds are among the most popular exotic pets, and our hospital offers dedicated avian medicine services, including beak trims, wing clipping, toenail trims, sexing, and comprehensive wellness exams. Birds are skilled at masking illness, so regular checkups are especially important for catching problems early.
My dog Aurora had mouth cancer. I found out and had such little time to schedule her surgery because it was so aggressive. I was referred to Dr. Sam by a friend. I live in Santa Barbara and made the trip up to Sacramento. I am still impressed how well everything went! She had to have almost half of her jaw removed. She is cancer free and looking amazing! Back to her puppy self. First picture is only 2 months after surgery! 2nd and 3rd are the day of. Dr. Sam saved my baby
