Digital Radiology X Rays in Stockton, CA

OPEN MONDAY – FRIDAY 5:00pm to 9:00PM

When your pet is in pain and a physical exam alone can’t pinpoint the cause, the ability to see inside the body without a single incision changes everything. Digital radiology gives your veterinarian a clear, detailed look at bones, organs, and soft tissues in minutes, helping us find answers faster and get your pet on the road to recovery sooner.

At Venetian Pet Hospital, we use digital X-ray technology to diagnose a wide range of conditions in dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets throughout Stockton. Our team combines advanced imaging equipment with the knowledge and care your pet deserves, so every image we capture leads to a well-informed treatment plan.

Our dedicated team is here to provide urgent, high-quality care for your pets—because they’re family and deserve immediate attention when it matters most!

How Digital X-Rays Help Your Pet

Digital radiography captures high-quality images of your pet’s internal structures using electronic sensors instead of traditional film. The result is sharper, more detailed images that appear on a computer screen within seconds. According to a review published in the National Institutes of Health, radiography remains one of the most frequently used and indispensable diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine across all species, from small companion animals to exotic pets and wildlife.

What X-Rays Can Reveal

Digital X-rays are particularly effective at evaluating bones, joints, the chest cavity, and the abdominal region. We use them to detect fractures, assess joint disease, identify foreign objects that pets may have swallowed, evaluate heart and lung conditions, screen for tumors or masses, and monitor the progression of chronic conditions over time. The speed and clarity of digital imaging also means fewer retakes and less time on the exam table for your pet.

How Digital Differs From Traditional Film

Unlike older film-based systems, digital radiography uses significantly less radiation per exposure and produces images that can be enhanced, zoomed, and adjusted on screen for a more thorough evaluation. Images are stored electronically, making it easy to compare current films with previous ones and to share them with veterinary specialists when a second opinion is needed.

Common Reasons We Recommend X-Rays

X-rays play a role in diagnosing a wide variety of health concerns. Some of the most common reasons we may recommend digital radiography for your pet include:

  • Lameness or limping: X-rays help us identify fractures, dislocations, ligament injuries, and degenerative joint conditions like arthritis or hip dysplasia
  • Coughing or difficulty breathing: chest X-rays reveal heart enlargement, fluid in the lungs, pneumonia, and masses in the thoracic cavity
  • Vomiting or loss of appetite: abdominal imaging can detect foreign bodies, intestinal blockages, organ enlargement, and bladder stones
  • Dental disease: dental X-rays show the roots and surrounding bone beneath the gum line, which is essential for planning dental procedures
  • Pre-surgical planning: radiographs help our surgical team map out the best approach for orthopedic repairs, mass removals, and other procedures

Each of these applications gives us the information we need to create a targeted treatment plan rather than relying on guesswork.

What to Expect During Your Pet's X-Ray

The imaging process is quick and painless. Your pet is gently positioned on the X-ray table, and our team uses foam pads, sandbags, and positioning aids to keep them still and comfortable. Most X-rays take only a few seconds per image, and the results appear on our monitor almost immediately.

Sedation is typically not necessary for routine X-rays, though it may be recommended for pets that are in significant pain or are too anxious to hold still. If sedation is needed, we use safe anesthesia protocols tailored to your pet’s age, breed, and health status. In many cases, we can review preliminary findings with you during the same appointment and discuss next steps right away.
