Patient Monitoring During Anesthesia in Stockton, CA

OPEN MONDAY – FRIDAY 5:00pm to 9:00PM

Anesthesia allows veterinarians to perform surgeries and procedures that would be impossible on a conscious patient, but it also carries inherent risks that must be managed carefully every single second. The difference between a routine recovery and a serious complication often comes down to the quality of monitoring that takes place while your pet is under. Knowing that your pet is being watched closely can ease one of the biggest fears pet owners face.

At Venetian Pet Hospital, anesthesia services include dedicated patient monitoring throughout every procedure. Our Stockton veterinary team uses advanced monitoring equipment and hands-on observation to keep your pet safe from induction to full recovery.

Our dedicated team is here to provide urgent, high-quality care for your pets—because they’re family and deserve immediate attention when it matters most!

Why Patient Monitoring Is Critical

Anesthesia affects nearly every system in your pet’s body, including the heart, lungs, blood pressure, and body temperature. Even healthy animals can experience unexpected changes during a procedure, and early detection of these changes allows our team to intervene before they escalate.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the risk of anesthetic complications decreases significantly when continuous monitoring protocols are in place. Our commitment to vigilant monitoring reflects our belief that every pet deserves the highest standard of surgical safety.

What We Monitor

Our monitoring protocols track multiple vital parameters simultaneously to give us a complete picture of your pet’s condition throughout the procedure.

Cardiovascular Monitoring

We continuously track your pet’s heart rate, heart rhythm, and blood pressure. An electrocardiogram (ECG) detects any irregularities in heart rhythm in real time, while blood pressure monitoring ensures adequate circulation is maintained to vital organs. If any values move outside the normal range, our team adjusts the anesthetic protocol immediately.

Respiratory Monitoring

Maintaining proper oxygen levels is one of the most important aspects of anesthesia safety. We use pulse oximetry to measure blood oxygen saturation and capnography to monitor carbon dioxide levels in exhaled breath. These tools together give us a precise view of how well your pet is breathing and whether ventilation adjustments are needed.

Temperature Regulation

Pets under anesthesia lose body heat faster than normal, and hypothermia can slow recovery and increase the risk of complications. We monitor body temperature continuously and use warming devices to keep your pet within a safe range throughout the procedure and into recovery.

Pre-Anesthetic Assessment

Before any procedure involving general anesthesia or local anesthesia, we perform a thorough evaluation of your pet’s health. This typically includes a physical exam, bloodwork, and a review of your pet’s medical history. For older pets or those with known health conditions, additional diagnostics such as radiology or cardiology screening may be recommended.

This pre-anesthetic workup helps us tailor the anesthesia plan specifically to your pet, choosing the safest drugs and dosages for their individual needs.
