Microchip Pet Identification in Stockton, CA

OPEN MONDAY – FRIDAY 5:00pm to 9:00PM

It only takes a moment for a door left ajar or a startled reaction to a loud noise to separate you from your pet. Collars and ID tags are helpful, but they can slip off, break, or become unreadable over time. A microchip provides a permanent, tamper-proof form of identification that stays with your pet for life, dramatically increasing the chances of a reunion if they ever go missing.

Venetian Pet Hospital offers microchipping as part of our additional veterinary services in Stockton. Our team makes the process quick, easy, and virtually painless for your pet, giving you lasting peace of mind.

Our dedicated team is here to provide urgent, high-quality care for your pets—because they’re family and deserve immediate attention when it matters most!

How Microchipping Works

A pet microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted just beneath the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades. Each chip carries a unique identification number that links to your contact information in a national pet recovery database.

When a lost pet is brought to a veterinary clinic, shelter, or rescue organization, a handheld scanner reads the chip’s number. Staff then look up the number in the database to find the owner’s contact details. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, microchipped dogs are returned to their owners at more than twice the rate of those without chips, and microchipped cats are returned at over 20 times the rate of unchipped cats.

The Microchipping Procedure

The implantation process is similar to a routine vaccination. A sterile needle is used to place the chip under the skin, and most pets experience only a brief pinch. No anesthesia or sedation is required, and the entire procedure takes just a few seconds.

Microchipping can be done during a regular wellness visit, at the time of a spay or neuter procedure, or as a standalone appointment. We recommend chipping puppies and kittens early, but pets of any age can be microchipped safely.

Keeping Your Information Up to Date

A microchip is only as effective as the contact information linked to it. After implantation, you will need to register the chip number with the manufacturer’s database and keep your phone number, address, and email current. If you move or change phone numbers, updating your registration takes just a few minutes online or by phone.

During your pet’s annual preventive care visits, we can scan the chip to confirm it is functioning properly and in the correct position. This simple check ensures the chip will be readable if your pet ever needs it most.

“ Dr. Sam saved my baby...

My dog Aurora had mouth cancer. I found out and had such little time to schedule her surgery because it was so aggressive. I was referred to Dr. Sam by a friend. I live in Santa Barbara and made the trip up to Sacramento. I am still impressed how well everything went! She had to have almost half of her jaw removed. She is cancer free and looking amazing! Back to her puppy self. First picture is only 2 months after surgery! 2nd and 3rd are the day of. Dr. Sam saved my baby
